Curving into the Atlantic 70 miles southeast of Boston and 70 miles east of Providence, Cape Cod, Massachusetts is a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the East Coast. During the summer months, Cape Cod is a place of tourists and part-time residents, but some lucky year-round locals call the Cape home.
Cape Cod luxury real estate abounds with offerings from water-view condos to beachside villas, from single-family ranch-style homes to traditional Cape Cod cottages. Many of the Cape’s distinctive cottages sport modern interiors with large bedrooms, separate living spaces, dining rooms and attached garages, but there are older cottages still standing on the cape, sporting more traditional features, like wood-burning fireplaces.
Separated into 15 towns, each with its own charms and senses of style, Cape Cod is nevertheless a tight-knit community. The county seat of Barnstable, home to the highest percentage of year-round residents, has a population of only 45,000, while the peninsula as a whole has a year-round population of just over 200,000.
Despite its relatively small population, Cape Cod sports a first-rate public transportation system. The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority operates year-round bus routes from southernmost Woods Hole to northernmost Provincetown. The Cape is also easily accessed by car with the Interstate outerbelts of Boston and Providence trailing to the western edge of the Cape, while U.S. Route 6 continues east through Barnstable to Cape Cod's easternmost cities.
The Cape Cod school system provides a wealth of educational opportunity for young residents. With nearly a dozen public schools in Barnstable alone, and more than a hundred schools throughout the Cape’s towns, Cape Cod students are well-served. The Cape’s school system has a proven track record of success, with two area school districts - Nauset Regional and Sandwich - landing on the College Board’s AP District Honor Roll List for 2012.
With Cape Cod Bay to the north, Nantucket Sound to the south, and the blue expanse of the Atlantic to the east, there is no denying Cape Cod is a beach community, with Cape Cod National Seashore its shining jewel.
Whether year-round or part-time, Cape Cod offers its residents both small-town serenity and beach-town excitement. To see the best of Cape Cod luxury homes for sale, you’ll need a Cape Cod luxury realtor. To find out more about this luxurious seaside retreat, contact us today.
